It seems far fetched idea.. but this news could be good or bad. Good that we are on road to find solution to curb things, which work in resistance to our survival. But bad also, if its used extensively, can these worms become next community of cockroaches which cannot be destroyed by nuclear bombs too. Well, makes me remember of the statement, dadi's use to give. "Use only what you need not over use or dump"...
In Lonar, key to curb methane emissions
Umesh Isalkar | TNN
Pune: Researchers from India and the UK have identified the active presence of several methane-eating bacteria at the Lonar meteor impact crater lake in Buldhana (Maharashtra ),which can offer hope for controlling global warming.
The research teams led by scientist Yogesh Shouche from the National Centre for Cell Science (NCCS),Pune, conceive the possible use of such extreme methane-eaters in reducing methane emissions from wetlands,landfills,power-stations and other areas where the green house gas is released.
These findings were accepted on April 12 for publication in the prestigious International Society for Microbial Ecology (ISME) journal, which is published by the Nature Publishing Group. The collaborative research was funded by the UK-India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI).
